- The Detroit-native graduated from Cody HS (MI) and played at Schoolcraft JC (MI), D-II Armstrong State (GA) and D-II Northwood (MI)
- Began his coaching career back in Detroit, spending six years as an assistant boys basketball coach at alma mater Cody HS
- Served as a head coach overseas for one year with the Henan Wildcats (China) and two years with Al-Halil (Saudi Arabia)
- Spent one year each on the staff at Kansas State (under Tom Asbury) and Bowling Green (under Dan Dakich)
- Joined Ben Howland‘s staff at Pittsburgh in 2001 and two years later followed him to UCLA, working there for three seasons
- Part of four NCAA Tournaments in those five years, including the Bruins’ 2006 National Runner-up finish
- Returned to his home state in 2006 when he was hired as the head coach at Central Michigan
- Went 75-111 in six seasons at the helm, earning a share of the MAC West division title in both 2009 and 2010
- Finished below .500 in all but one season; was fired in 2012 following a second-straight 20+ loss record
- Spent two seasons on the staff at Detroit Mercy under head coach Ray McCallum
- Reunited with Howland in 2015, spending the next seven years as an assistant at Mississippi State
- Was part of one NCAA Tournament and three NITs, including a 2021 NIT Runner-up
- Hired in August 2022 to be an assistant on Fred Hoiberg‘s staff at Nebraska
- Along with his wife, Seantelle, has two children; son, Trey, played for him at CMU and later at Pittsburgh and TCU
