- Born May 17, 1970
- Hometown: Burke, Virginia
- Alma Mater: University of North Carolina (BA, 1992)
- After starring at Lake Braddock (VA), Davis played four seasons for the Tar Heels and legendary head coach Dean Smith
- Was All-ACC as a senior in 1992 and the year before was part of UNC’s 1991 Final Four run
- Drafted 20th overall in 1992 by the New York Knicks and played in the NBA for the next 12 seasons (started 156 games)
- Among the coaches he played for were Pat Riley (NYK), Don Nelson (NYK & DAL), Darrell Walker (TOR), Leonard Hamilton (WAS), Doug Collins (WAS), Rick Carlisle (DET) and Lawrence Frank (NJN)
- Worked for seven years at ESPN as a college basketball analyst and as a co-host on College GameDay
- He returned to his alma mater in 2012 to become an assistant coach on Roy Williams‘ staff, serving in that role for nine seasons
- Was part of seven NCAA Tournaments, including a Runner-up finish in 2016 and the Tar Heels’ 2017 National Championship
- In April 2021, Davis was officially announced as the new head coach of the Tar Heels, a week after Williams’ retirement
- Went 29-10 in his first season; entered the NCAA Tournament as an 8-seed but finished as National Runner-Up
- Came into 2022-23 as preseason #1 but ended up falling out of the Top 25 completely in what was a very disappointing campaign
- Bounced back the following season and won the 2024 ACC title outright, the first for UNC since 2019; earned a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen
