John R. Wooden Award
List of John R. Wooden Award winners
Every year since 1977, The Los Angeles Athletic Club has presented the John R. Wooden Award to recognize the outstanding men’s college basketball player of the year. A National Advisory Board puts together a ballot of approximately 15 candidates for the award, all of which must be full-time students with a GPA of 2.00 or higher that have made outstanding contributions to team play and citizenship. The award is named after legendary Hall of Fame coach John Wooden, who won a record ten NCAA National Championships with UCLA.
A women’s award has been given each year since 2004. Also presented by the Committee since 1999 is The John R. Wooden Legends of Coaching Award, given to one coach each year and recognizing lifetime achievement.
