  • Started his coaching career at his alma mater, Hamilton HS (CA), in 1983, spending eight seasons as an assistant there
  • Spent six years as an assistant – in three separate stints – at Santa Monica CC (CA)
    • In between stints, was the head coach at Santa Monica for the 1994-95 season; led the Corsairs to a 24-8 record
  • Spent many years as a Division I assistant, working under head coaches Don Newman (Sacramento State), Steve Fisher (San Diego State), Henry Bibby (USC), Lon Kruger (UNLV) and Rick Pitino (Louisville)
  • Hired to be the head coach at New Mexico State in 2007, a position he would hold for a total of nine seasons
    • Won 198 games at NMSU, leading the Aggies to five NCAA Tournaments and one NIT
  • Took over as the head coach at UNLV in April 2016, becoming the 16th head coach in program history
    • Fired in March 2019 following three seasons at the helm, going 48-48 over that stretch without any postseason berths
  • In a return to the WAC, Menzies spent the 2019-20 season as Dan Majerle‘s associate head coach at Grand Canyon
  • Hired in April 2022 to be the new head coach of the Kansas City Roos in the Summit League
    • After going 11-21 in year one, Menzies and the Roos went 16-16 in year two and he was named 2024 Summit COY
