- Played at Richmond for head coaches Carl Slone and Lou Goetz; was inducted into the Richmond Athletic HOF in 2002
- Spent one year as an assistant at D-II Virginia Union and then worked at alma mater Richmond for eleven years under Dick Tarrant and Bill Dooley
- Joined Lefty Driesell‘s staff at Georgia State in 1997 and took over the program as head coach five years later
- Went 62-75 during his tenure and was fired in 2007 after failing to reach the postseason
- Joined Mack McCarthy‘s staff at East Carolina and then stayed on board three years later when Jeff Lebo took over the program
- Served as interim head coach for the second half of the 2016-17 season after Lebo had hip surgery, though Lebo is still credited with the official record (6-8) during that time
- Named the interim head coach in November 2017 after Lebo’s resignation, finishing out the season with a 8-16 record
- Along with his wife, Darlene, has two daughters and one son
