- Hometown: Bancroft, Iowa
- Alma Mater: Buena Vista University (BA, 1982)
- Played basketball and baseball at Buena Vista in his home state of Iowa
- Started coaching at the high school level in Colorado, spending three years as the head coach at Stratton Senior HS
- Spent one year each as an assistant at D-III Colorado College (under Al Walker), University of Colorado (under Tom Miller) and Denver (under Dick Peth) before joining Stew Morrill‘s staff at Colorado State in 1991
- Stayed with Morrill for the next 13 seasons – seven at CSU and then six more at Utah State
- Was an assistant for two years at Utah under Ray Giacoletti before getting hired at Weber State in 2006
- Coached the Wildcats for 16 seasons (2006-22), winning 316 games and going to three NCAA Tournaments, two NITs, three CITs (was runner-up in 2013) and one CBI
- Coached NBA Lottery Pick, Rookie of the Year and multiple All-Star Damian Lillard from 2008-2012
- Announced his retirement in May 2022, turning the program over to long-time assistant Eric Duft
- Along with his wife, Laura, has two sons
