- Assistant for two seasons at Coastal Carolina under Cliff Ellis, one season at EKU under Jeff Neubauer, two seasons at UAB under Jerod Haase and two seasons at Clemson under Brad Brownell before getting the Nicholls State job
- In his second year at Nicholls, Riley led the team to a share of the Southland regular season title
- Hired in March 2018 as the head coach at South Alabama
- Riley is 94-67 through five seasons, winning at least 17 games in each of those five years
