Steve Roccaforte
Born May 21, 1965
Alma Mater: Lamar University (BA, 1989)
After a stint as a student assistant on Tom Abatemarco‘s staff at Lamar, Roccaforte began his career at formerly Division I Centenary College in Shreveport, LA, where he was an assistant under Tommy Vardeman for four seasons
Spent four years on Perry Clark‘s staff at Tulane, two years under Steve McClain at Wyoming and three years under John Calipari at Memphis
- During that stretch, Roccaforte was part of two NCAA Tournaments and five NITs (including Memphis’ 2002 NIT title)
Returned to alma mater Lamar in 2003 as one of Billy Tubbs‘ assistants, serving in that capacity for three seasons
- Tubbs stepped down to focus on his AD duties in 2006 and selected Roccaforte to be his replacement
- Roccaforte went 76-78 in three seasons as the head coach, but was fired in 2011 – the same year Tubbs retired as AD
Hired that same year as an assistant at South Florida, working with the Bulls for three seasons under head coach Stan Heath
Next up was a four year stint at Virginia Tech – three as an assistant and one as associate head coach – under Buzz Williams
From 2018-2021, Roccaforte was the associate head coach for Joe Dooley at East Carolina
Reunited with Williams in June 2021, joining his staff at Texas A&M as an assistant coach
