Jeff Boals named new Stony Brook head coach
Jeff Boals, who has been a popular head coaching candidate among fans and sportswriters alike, has been hired to be the next head basketball coach at Stony Brook. Boals has been an assistant to Thad Matta at Ohio State since 2009, during which time the Buckeyes won three Big Ten titles, made four trips to the Sweet Sixteen and one to the Final Four (2012).
Boals is inheriting a Seawolves team that won the America East regular season and tournament in 2016. After that strong season, previous head coach Steve Pikiell was hired at Rutgers. Boals will look to build on Pikiell’s success, who had the Seawolves in the postseason in six of the last seven seasons.
