- Alma Mater: University of Maryland (BA, 1967)
- After winning two state titles at Morse HS (ME), Harrington played for head coach Bud Millikan at Maryland
- Began his coaching career at his alma mater, spending ten years as an assistant coach under Lefty Driesell
- Was a part of two NCAA Tournaments and two NITs, including the Terps’ 1972 NIT title
- Hired in 1979 to be the head coach at Hofstra, going 14-14 in his only season there
- Spent the next seven seasons at George Mason, compiling a 112-85 record during that time
- Led the Patriots to the NIT in 1986, his second 20+ win season with the program
- Next stop was a three-year stint at Long Beach State, going to the NIT in his first and third years
- Also served as a manager with the Team USA basketball team at the 1990 FIBA Championships
- For five and a half seasons, Harrington was the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes
- Went 72-85 overall, reaching two NITs but no NCAA Tournaments
- Fired 14 games into the 1995-96 season, following a 5-9 (0-3 Big Eight) start
- Served as an assistant with the Toronto Raptors for two years, mentoring young players like Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady
- Returned to Maryland in 2008, spending two seasons as the director of men’s basketball student services
- The Terps’ head coach at the time was Gary Williams, with whom Harrington played in the 1960s
