- Hometown: Elmwood Park, Illinois
- Alma Mater: North Central College (BA, 1984) / North Texas University (MS, 1986) / University of Illinois (Ph.D., 1992)
- Was a graduate assistant for two seasons at Illinois under long-time Illini head coach Lou Henson
- Spent seven seasons as the head coach at Division III Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ
- Compiled a record of 168-38, reached three Final Fours and won the 1996 NCAA D-III National Championship
- Hired at Maine the following year, winning 125 games over eight seasons
- Left the school with the highest winning percentage in program history
- Took over at La Salle in 2004, leading the Explorers to the NIT in 2012 and the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in 2013
- The NCAA Tournament appearance in 2013 was the program’s first since 1992 and first S16 appearance since 1955
- Giannini was fired in March 2018 after fourteen seasons at La Salle
- Giannini returned to Rowan in July 2018 to head the school’s new Center for Sports Communication & Social Impact
- Along with his wife, Donna, has two daughters
