Michael Schwartz hired at East Carolina
East Carolina announced Wednesday the hiring of Michael Schwartz as the Pirates’ next head men’s basketball coach. Schwartz has spent the last six seasons on Rick Barnes‘ staff at Tennessee, most recently as the Vols’ associate head coach.
“Mike is a proven leader who has all the tools needed to lay the groundwork as we work together to bring sustained success for our program,” AD Jon Gilbert said in a statement. “He brings enthusiasm and positive energy daily and will emphasize accountability, academics, player development and engagement within the community and surrounding region. He has been a great evaluator on the recruiting trail for more than 20 years. He will show a genuine commitment to our student-athletes from day one on and off the court and be a mentor for all of them moving forward. We are excited to have such a talented coach on board to lead the Pirates forward.”
In addition to his time at UT, Schwartz has also spent time on staff at Tulsa, Fresno State, Miami (FL), UTSA, Long Beach State and alma mater Texas, where he played for and coached under Barnes. He is originally from Los Angeles, starring at Beverly Hills HS (CA).
