- Attended at Pottsville Area HS (PA) and went on to play PG for four seasons under head coach Charlie Woollum
- First coaching job was a two-year stint at his alma mater as an assistant under Woollum
- Assisted Eddie Burke at Drexel for five years (two stints) and Barry Parkhill at William & Mary for one year
- Hired in 1989 as the head coach at Division III Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA
- Coached the Flying Dutchmen for five seasons, going 94-43 overall and reaching the Division III Tournament twice
- Flannery’s 1993-94 team went 28-4 and won the 1994 NCAA D-III National Championship
- Coached the Flying Dutchmen for five seasons, going 94-43 overall and reaching the Division III Tournament twice
- Returned to his alma mater in 1994, coaching the Bucknell Bison for fourteen seasons
- Won three Patriot League titles, two Patriot League Tournaments and 233 (57%) of his games during that tenure
- Reached the NCAA Tournament twice, upsetting 3-seed Kansas in 2005 and 8-seed Arkansas in 2006
