- Played four seasons at Kansas, under Ted Owens and HOFer Larry Brown; was team captain as a senior in 1984-85
- First head coaching job was at Longmont HS in Colorado, leading that program for three seasons
- Spent four seasons as an assistant under Jerry Green – three at Oregon and one at Tennessee
- Was an assistant for eight seasons under Mark Turgeon – two at Jacksonville State and six at Wichita State
- Hired as head coach of Northern Colorado in 2006
- Went 56-66 over four seasons while improving the Bears’ win total each year
- Took over at Colorado in 2010; taken the Buffaloes to the postseason in twelve of his fourteen seasons at the helm
- Won the Pac-12 Tournament in 2012, part of a run of three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances (the first such streak in program history)
