- A native of Baltimore, English played at Randallstown HS (MD) before spending one year at Notre Dame Prep (MA)
- Played at Mizzou for head coaches Mike Anderson (2009-11) and Frank Haith (2011-12); twice named All-Big 12 Third Team
- Drafted 44th overall in the 2012 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons, playing 41 games with the franchise in 2012-13
- Spent the next two years playing overseas, with stints in Italy, France and Venezuela
- Returned to the United States in 2015 and joined Haith‘s staff at Tulsa as an assistant coach
- Spent two years at Tulsa, then two each as an assistant at Colorado (under Tad Boyle) and Tennessee (under Rick Barnes)
- Hired in March 2021 to be head coach at George Mason, becoming the youngest head coach in the A-10 at 32
- After going 14-16 in his first year, English led the Patriots to a 20-win season in 2022-23
- In March 2023, English left to become the new head coach at Providence in the Big East
