- Moorehead served as the head men’s basketball coach at Alabama State, Texas Southern and his alma mater, Hampton, all at a time when the program’s were still playing below the Division I level
- Went 201-174 over 15 seasons as head coach of those three programs, doing especially well (70-20) in his three years at Alabama State
- He also coached the women’s basketball team at Norfolk State (then Division II) for eight seasons, going 151-59 overall
- His teams won one CIAA division title, two CIAA Tournaments and went to three D-II NCAA Tournaments
