The South Side Chicago native played at Leo Catholic HS (IL) and then went on to play for George Ireland at Loyola Chicago
- Was a three-year starter for the Ramblers and served as team captain in 1955-56 as a senior
Returned to Loyola in 1962 to be an assistant coach under Ireland, working in that capacity for the next twelve seasons
- Part of four NCAA Tournament appearances as an assistant, including the Ramblers’ 1963 National Championship
Took over as head coach at his alma mater in 1974 and led the program for six seasons overall
- Struggled early on, but did go to the NIT in 1980 after winning the MCC regular season title in their first year in the league
After his coaching career ended, Lyne went on to work as the director of development for Misericordia/Heart of Mercy in Chicago – an organization that provided a home for mentally disabled adults and children
Lyne passed away in 1996 at the age of 62; survived by his wife, Nancy, and their three children, Terrence, Timothy and Sheila
