- Alma Mater: Loyola University Chicago (BA, 1956)
- The South Side Chicago native played at Leo Catholic HS (IL) and then went on to play for George Ireland at Loyola Chicago
- Was a three-year starter for the Ramblers and served as team captain in 1955-56 as a senior
- Returned to Loyola in 1962 to be an assistant coach under Ireland, working in that capacity for the next twelve seasons
- Part of four NCAA Tournament appearances as an assistant, including the Ramblers’ 1963 National Championship
- Took over as head coach at his alma mater in 1974 and led the program for six seasons overall
- Struggled early on, but did go to the NIT in 1980 after winning the MCC regular season title in their first year in the league
- After his coaching career ended, Lyne went on to work as the director of development for Misericordia/Heart of Mercy in Chicago – an organization that provided a home for mentally disabled adults and children
- Lyne passed away in 1996 at the age of 62; survived by his wife, Nancy, and their three children, Terrence, Timothy and Sheila
