- Born July 9, 1956
- Hometown: Cupertino, California
- Alma Mater: California State University, Bakersfield (BA, 1978) / Saint Mary’s College (MA, 1986)
- Graduated from Monta Vista HS (CA) and then played two years at De Anza CC (CA) before finishing his career playing for head coach Pat Wennihan at (then Division II) Cal State Bakersfield; served as a team captain at CSUB
- Started his coaching career at the high school level in California, with stints as the head coach at Mountain View HS (1978-81), Los Altos HS (1981-83) and Newark Memorial HS (1984-89)
- Began the first of two stints at Clovis West HS in Fresno in 1989, where he won nine conference COY awards and was Cal-Hi State COY in 2001
- Left Clovis West in 2002 to become the head coach Fresno CC, going 133-11 in four seasons with a perfect 34-0 record in 2004-05
- That success led to his hiring at Pepperdine in 2006, but did not have the same success; resigned during year two with a 14-35 overall record
- Spent three years as an assistant under Derek Kellogg at UMass, then worked in the NBA as an assistant for the Denver Nuggets (under Brian Shaw), Philadelphia 76ers (under Brett Brown), and Sacramento Kings (under George Karl)
- Returned to Clovis West in 2016 and coached the team for another eight seasons (for 21 total)
- All told, he went 559-104 at Clovis West and 697-195 overall as a HS coach, winning 16 league titles and 10 section championships
- Made the move back to college in April 2024 when he was hired as the head coach at Fresno State
