Charlotte officially announced on Tuesday that Francis “Biff” Poggi will be the 49ers’ next head football coach. Poggi is currently the associate head coach at Michigan, playing a key role in the Wolverines’ resurgence over the last couple seasons.
“We are extremely fortunate to welcome Biff Poggi as our head football coach,” said AD Mike Hill. “He is a transformational leader and has a sterling reputation as a coach, having had phenomenal success at the highest levels of college and high school football. But he is much more than that. He has demonstrated it by pouring himself into young men and communities, and the results have been spectacular.”
Poggi is a Baltimore-native who was a prolific high school head coach in his home state before his most recent stint in Ann Arbor. He will remain on the Michigan staff for the remainder of the 2022 season while the Niners continue to be led by interim head coach Pete Rossomando. Charlotte’s athletic programs are joining the AAC starting in 2023.
