Donny Lind hired as head coach at Mount St. Mary’s

UNC Greensboro assistant Donny Lind has been announced as the new head coach at Mount St. Mary’s. Lind has been on Mike Jones‘ staff since 2016 and before that spent three seasons at The Mount as an assistant coach for Jamion Christian.

“My family and I are so excited to return to Mount St. Mary’s as the head coach.” Lind said. “I truly appreciate President Trainor, President-Elect Joyce, and Athletic Director Brad Davis for entrusting me to lead this program. To have the opportunity to build upon the rich basketball tradition that Coach Phelan started and has continued throughout the years is a responsibility I don’t take lightly. I’m looking forward to honoring that legacy while pushing the Mount to even greater heights.”

In addition to stints at UNCG, Radford and MSM, Lind was on Shaka Smart‘s staff at VCU for three years and was a graduate assistant there in 2011 when the Rams made their surprise run to the NCAA Final Four as a 10-seed. Lind, 37, is originally from Ohio and is a graduate of Loyola University Maryland, where he was a student manager for the basketball program coached by Jimmy Patsos.

“From our first conversation, Donny’s vision for the Mount, combined with his creative coaching skillset and incredible recruiting reputation stood out to me,” AD Brad Davis said. “I am thrilled to welcome Donny back to the Mount and am excited to partner with him to take our men’s basketball program to the next level.”

Lind takes over for Dan Engelstad, who left after six seasons to become an assistant coach at Syracuse. The Mountaineers have won 13 games in each of the last two seasons after joining the MAAC in 2022. They last played in the NCAA Tournament in 2021.
