  • Alma Mater: Southern Methodist University (BA, 1949)
  • After serving in the Army Air Corps, Prewitt enrolled at SMU and played basketball for two seasons
    • Was All-Conference and served as team captain in 1949, playing for head coach Doc Hayes
  • Became an assistant on Hayes‘ staff in 1949, serving in that capacity for eighteen seasons
  • Elevated to head coach in 1967 after Hayes retired and led the program fo the next eight years
    • Went 88-115 overall, highlighted by back-to-back 16-win seasons (1970-72) with a Southwest title in the latter
  • Passed away in Dallas in May 2018 at the age of 93
