- Alma Mater: Southern Methodist University (BA, 1949)
- After serving in the Army Air Corps, Prewitt enrolled at SMU and played basketball for two seasons
- Was All-Conference and served as team captain in 1949, playing for head coach Doc Hayes
- Became an assistant on Hayes‘ staff in 1949, serving in that capacity for eighteen seasons
- Part of eight Southwest titles and six NCAA berths, including the Mustangs’ 1956 Final Four run
- Elevated to head coach in 1967 after Hayes retired and led the program fo the next eight years
- Went 88-115 overall, highlighted by back-to-back 16-win seasons (1970-72) with a Southwest title in the latter
- Passed away in Dallas in May 2018 at the age of 93
