David Cox elevated to head coach at Rhode Island

About two weeks after Dan Hurley left for the UConn job, Rhode Island has elevated his former associate head coach to lead the program. David Cox was named the new head coach of the Rams on Wednesday after much speculation and reported to discussions with other candidates on the part of the school.

Cox will look to continue to the success that Hurley’s staff has had over the past few years. Rhode Island has emerged as the marquee program in the A-10, winning 23+ games in three of the last four seasons.

This is the first collegiate head coaching job for Cox, who has also been an assistant at Rutgers, Georgetown and Pittsburgh. He cut his teeth on the high school and AAU levels in DC, giving him valuable recruiting connections in that area.
