  • Played at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, as part of the “Fab Five” group that included future NBA superstar LeBron James; the team won three Ohio State Championships and were coached first by Keith Dambrot and then by Dru’s father, Dru Joyce II
    • Joyce III played for Dambrot and the Akron Zips (2003-07), starting 101 games at PG and earning All-MAC Second Team honors in 2007
    • Enjoyed a 12-year professional career overseas (2007-19), with stints in Germany, Poland, Belarus, Monaco and France
  • Started his coaching career in 2019, spending three seasons as an assistant and recruiting coordinator for Dennis Gates and Cleveland State
  • Reunited with Dambrot at Duquesne in 2022, working as his associate head coach for the next two seasons
    • Was with the Dukes for their NCAA Tournament appearance in 2024 – the program’s first since 1977 (and first win since 1969)
  • In March 2024, Joyce III was promoted to head coach to replace a retiring Dambrot
