  • Alma Mater: Tulane University (BS, 1992)
  • After graduating from Anderson Highland HS (IN), spent one year at Aquinas College (TN) before transferring to Tulane
    • Played three seasons at Tulane under head coach Perry Clark, graduating in 1992 as the school’s all-time steals leader
  • Joined Clark‘s coaching staff in 1993, working as one of his assistants for six of the next seven years at Tulane
    • In between stints at his alma mater, spent one season as an assistant under Ron Everhart at McNeese State
  • Spent the next seven seasons in Florida, working with Clark again at Miami (FL) and then under Robert McCullum at USF
  • After a season on Everhart‘s staff at Duquesne, Gary was hired in 2008 to be the head coach at then-Division I Centenary (LA)
    • Went 16-44 in his two seasons at the helm and resigned in 2010 – the program dropped to Division III a year later
  • Returned to Duquesne for one more season before joining Matt Painter‘s staff at Purdue in 2011
    • Worked at Purdue for eight seasons, where he was a part of six NCAA Tournament teams (with three Sweet Sixteens)
  • Hired in March 2019 to be the head coach at Mercer in the SoCon
    • Is 51-43 through his first three seasons with the Bears; reached the SoCon Tournament title game in 2021
  • Along with his wife, Claudia, has four daughters and one son
