- Started out coaching at the prep level with stints at McCallum HS (TX) and Austin HS (TX)
- Spent one year as the head coach at McLennan CC in Waco, TX
- First arrived at Baylor in 1973 as an assistant at Baylor, spending four seasons working under Carroll Dawson
- Elevated to head coach towards the end of the 1976-77 season, following Dawson’s resignation
- Went 102-130 overall in 7+ years at the helm, with three winning seasons; won Southwest COY in 1981
- Resigned in 1985 amid potential NCAA violations
