John Cooper is out as the Miami RedHawks head coach, a job he had held for the last five seasons. The team finished in last place in the MAC this season, falling to Western Michigan in the first round of the MAC Tournament last Monday to officially end the season.
During Cooper’s tenure, the RedHawks never finished higher than a tie for fourth in the six-team MAC East. Cooper was 59-100 overall and 29-58 in MAC play, making this move an easy one for AD David Sayler.
In a statement, Sayler said “with the support of Miami’s board of trustees and the president, we are making a commitment to Miami basketball.” Miami has also fired women’s head basketball coach Cleve Wright.
