- Alma Mater: Wake Forest University (BA, 2006)
- Spent three years at West Charlotte HS (NC) before spending his final year at Oak Hill Academy (VA), where he was roommates and teammates with future NBA star Carmelo Anthony
- Went on to play for Skip Prosser at Wake Forest for four seasons; went to three NCAA Tournaments and one NIT with the Deacons
- The 2002-03 team won an ACC title and the 2003-04 team, featuring Chris Paul, reached the NCAA Sweet Sixteen
- Was First-Team All-ACC as a sophomore in 2004 and then Second-Team All-ACC in both 2005 and 2006
- Spent 12 years playing professionally overseas, including stints in Belgium, Czech Republic, Greece, Ukraine, China, Germany, France, Turkey, Beirut, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Belarus and Romania
- Started his coaching career in 2019 as an assistant at Winthrop under Pat Kelsey, who was an assistant at WF during Gray’s playing career
- The Eagles won back-to-back Big South regular season and Big South Tournament titles in 2020 and 2021, reaching the NCAA Tournament in 2021 (the 2020 event was cancelled)
- Initially followed Kelsey to the College of Charleston in April 2021 before getting the Western Carolina job
- Hired in April 2021 as the new head coach at Western Carolina, replacing Mark Prosser – the son of his former coach, Skip Prosser – who had accepted the job at Winthrop to replace Kelsey
- Went 51-47 over three seasons at the helm, going from 11 wins in year one to 22-10 in year three
- Left WCU in March 2024 to become the head coach at Coastal Carolina in the Sun Belt
