- Alma Mater: Clayton State University (BA, 2004)
- After graduating from Sprayberry HS in Marietta, GA, Young played two years at Middle Georgia College and then two seasons for head coach Gordon Gibbons at D-II Clayton State (Morrow, GA)
- Started his coaching career overseas, becoming head coach of the Shamrock Rovers Hoops pro team in the Irish Super League at 23 y.o.
- Spent one season as an assistant at Utah Valley under Dick Hunsaker, then later worked one season back in Georgia as an assistant at Oxford College of Emory
- Young spent the next 15 years working in the professional game, initially in the NBA G League and then later as an NBA assistant
- Was a G League head coach for five total seasons, two each in Delaware and Iowa and one wit the Utah Flash
- Also served as an assistant in Utah and Delaware before later becoming an assistant coach with the 76ers
- Worked under head coaches Brad Jones (Utah Flash), Rod Baker (Delaware 87ers), Brett Brown (Philadelphia 76ers), Monty Williams and Frank Vogel (Phoenix Suns)
- Hired in April 2024 to become the new head coach of the BYU Cougars in the Big 12
