McNeese State parts ways with Dave Simmons

According to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman, McNeese State has decided to part ways with head basketball coach Dave Simmons. The Cowboys finished 11-17 this season and missed out on a berth in the Southland Tournament via tiebreakers.

Simmons had been at McNeese since 2006, going 155-211 during that time. He also spent seven seasons at the school earlier in his career assisting former head coach Steve Welch.

At the peak in 2010-11, Simmons led the Cowboys to a 21-win season and a berth in the NIT by way of a shared Southland title. The team finished second in their division a year later but failed to finish at or above .500 in any of the last six seasons. The news of Simmons’ firing comes on the heels of a third straight single-digit win season.
