- Hometown: Monmouth, Illinois
- Alma Mater: East Texas State University (BA, 1987)
- Graduated from Monmouth HS (IL) and then played at D-II East Texas State (now known as Texas A&M-Commerce)
- Started his coaching career back in his home state at Western Illinois, spending one season as an assistant under Jack Margenthaler
- Was an assistant at Sam Houston State for one year before joining Jim Wooldridge‘s staff at Texas State in 1991
- After three seasons, Miller was elevated to head coach; led the program for the next six seasons
- Went 87-79 overall, winning two Southland titles and reaching the NCAA Tournament in 1997 after winning the Southland Tournament
- Reunited with Wooldridge in 2000, working on his staff at Kansas State for the next five seasons
- Left K State in 2005 to be the head coach at Eastern Illinois, leading the Panthers for seven seasons
- Compiled an overall record of 75-130, highlighted by the 2009-10 season when the team went 19-12 (11-7 OVC)
- The school declined to renew Miller’s contract in 2012 following a 12-17 campaign
- Worked with Wooldridge for one more season at UC Riverside before moving up to the professional coaching ranks
- Was an assistant with the Austin Toros/Spurs of the NBA G League for two seasons under head coach Ken McDonald
- Became the head coach of the Westchester Knicks – the G League affiliate for the New York Knicks – in 2015
- Went 108-92 in four seasons at the helm, reaching the Playoffs in 2016; was named G League Coach of the Year in 2018
- Moved up to the New York Knicks staff – led by David Fizdale – ahead of the 2019-20 season
- Named interim head coach of the Knicks in December 2019 after Fizdale’s dismissal; went 17-27 in 44 games at the helm
- Spent one year on Mark Daigneault’s staff in Oklahoma City and since 2021 has been with the Wizards and head coach Wes Unseld Jr.
