  • Alma Mater: Birmingham–Southern College (BA, 1976) / Alabama State University (MA, 1980)
  • Played at Seminole State JC (FL), then finished his career and bachelors at Birmingham–Southern College (AL)
  • First coaching roles were at the HS level, including a stint as an assistant at Ramsay HS in Birmingham, AL
  • Joined Cliff Ellis‘ staff at South Alabama in 1982, then spent the next four years assisting Mike Hanks (one year at Samford and three years back at South Alabama)
    • Then worked as an assistant for two seasons for Rich Herrin at Southern Illinois
  • Hired by Lon Kruger at Kansas State in 1989, continuing to work under Kruger at both Florida and Illinois
    • In a total of 11 seasons, was part of six NCAA Tournaments (including the 1994 NCAA Final Four) and two NITs
  • Became the head coach at Western Michigan in 2000, going 44-45 in three seasons at the helm
    • Went 20-11 during the 2002-03 season, reaching the 2003 NIT
  • Left WMU for South Florida, leading the Bulls’ program for four seasons
    • Was not as successful at USF, going just 40-76 in two seasons at each within the C-USA and Big East
  • Led the Nigerian national team to a 4-1 record during the 2007 All-Africa Games
  • Next gigs were one season each assisting Eddie Sutton (San Francisco), Kirk Speraw (UCF) and Paul Hewitt (Georgia Tech)
  • Worked with the Guangzhou Long-Lions of the Chinese Basketball Season as an assistant for the 2011-12 season
  • Hired in 2014 to join Dana Altman’s staff at Oregon, spending three seasons on the staff there
  • Became a head coach again in 2017, taking over the program at Florida A&M in the MEAC
    • Is 41-71 through four seasons with the Rattlers; named MEAC COY in 2021 after finish 5th in conference
    • In 2021, the school made the moved from the MEAC to the SWAC
  • Along with his wife, Cheryl, has one daughter and one son
