TCU asst David Patrick hired as UC Riverside head coach
UC Riverside will hire David Patrick to lead the men’s basketball program. Patrick is currently assistant head coach to Jamie Dixon at TCU. The Horned Frogs will face off against Syracuse in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday night.
Patrick, a Louisiana-Lafayette grad and long-time assistant at LSU prior to TCU, is highly regarded on the recruiting trail. He helped land star prospects at LSU like Antonio Blakeney, Jarrell Martin, Jordan Mickey and many others.
The star recruit during his time at LSU was #1 NBA Draft pick Ben Simmons, to whom Patrick is the godfather. Patrick was born in Bermuda and raised in Australia, a connection he has used to land recruits at both LSU and TCU. An Australian-pipeline like that of Saint Mary’s (where Patrick also spent some time) could help to put the UCR program on the college basketball map.
The Press-Enterprise confirmed that the school has signed Patrick to a five-year contract work at least $261k per year.
UC Riverside fired previous head coach Dennis Cutts mid-season, letting assistant Justin Bell finish out the year as interim head coach.
