- Was a freshman alongside Carmelo Anthony in 2003 when the Orange were NCAA National Champions
- Named Chip Hilton POY in 2006 and later had his jersey #3 retired by the program
- Played professionally overseas for several years while also making some NBA Summer League and G-League appearances
- Returned to Syracuse in 2009 and spent the next two seasons as a graduate assistant on Boeheim‘s staff; elevated to assistant coach in 2011 and held that role for the next 12 years
- In fourteen total seasons under Boeheim, McNamara was part of two Big East titles (one later vacated), nine NCAA Tournaments (two later vacated) and trips to the Final Four in both 2013 and 2016
- Promoted to associate head coach in 2023 by Adrian Autry, who was named as Boeheim’s successor following his retirement
- In March 2024, McNamara was officially announced as the new head coach at Siena in the MAAC
