Keith Urgo elevated to head coach at Fordham

Associate head coach Keith Urgo has been promoted to fill the head coach vacancy at Fordham, the school announced on Thursday. Urgo arrived at Fordham in 2021 after ten seasons at Penn State and four at Villanova.

“We are thrilled to announce Keith as the next leader of our Fordham men’s basketball program,” AD Ed Kull said. “After an extensive search process, Keith emerged as the top choice due to the leadership role he has played in the program’s strategic plan, his Fordham roots, and his vision for creating a winning environment for our student-athletes, alumni, fans, and community. The passion Keith has for the Institution and our Jesuit mission is evident and we are excited to give him the reins as our head men’s basketball coach.”

Urgo has been working in D-I basketball since 2007, when he became the video coordinator for Jay Wright. He played a key role in the Rams’ improvement last year under Kyle Neptune, who left earlier this month to take over for Wright at Villanova. The DC-native and Fairfield graduate will look to maintain momentum within the program after going 16-16 this year (+14 wins vs. 2020-21).

“I can’t tell you how excited I am to be named head men’s basketball coach at Fordham,” Urgo said. “This means so much to myself, my wife, our children and my mother and father. My father is a proud 1959 Fordham College and 1962 Law School graduate and for me to coach at his alma mater means the world to him. This is a dream come true for me and my family and I can’t wait to get started building on what we accomplished last year.”
