Lafayette head coach Fran O’Hanlon to retire following 2021-22 season

Fran O’Hanlon, who has been the head coach at Lafayette since 1995, will retire at the end of the current season, he announced on Friday.

“As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end someday,” coach O’Hanlon said in a statement. “With that in mind and after thoughtful consideration, I have decided to retire as Lafayette College’s head men’s basketball coach at the season’s end. I am honored and grateful to have led our program for so many years. It truly has been a blessing to have coached such fine young men and watch them grow.

What a great ride it has been. From being supported by great staff, excellent student-athletes, terrific community and alumni support, and a loving family, we were able to enjoy many memorable moments.”

O’Hanlon has 355 victories with the Leopards and has been to the NCAA Tournament three times, most recently in 2015. He has been named Patriot League COY three times and in 2015 was given the Gene Bartow Award for his overall contributions to the game.

He will leave Lafayette as the program’s all-time winningest and longest-tenured head coach. Now in his 27th year at the helm, he is the sixth-longest tenured active head coach in Division I (tied with Tom Izzo).
