  • Alma Mater: University of North Carolina (BA, 1993)
  • Played at Saratoga Central Catholic HS and then under legendary head coach Dean Smith at North Carolina
    • Was the senior captain on the 1992-93 Tar Heels team that won the National Championship
    • Played for one season in Cyprus and then spent three years working in sales
  • First coaching jobs were as an assistant at Bishop McGuinness HS (NC) and with the Middle Tennessee women’s team
  • Joined Jim Larrañaga‘s coaching staff at George Mason in 1999, where he worked for the next three seasons
  • After one season on Mike Sutton’s staff at Tennessee Tech, Cherry returned to Mason for another four seasons with Larrañaga
  • Worked as an assistant to Darrin Horn for two seasons, one at WKU and one at South Carolina
  • Hired in March 2009 as the new head coach at High Point, a position he held for the next nine seasons
  • After a few years out of college basketball, Cherry spent two seasons on Jordan Mincy‘s staff at Jacksonville as an assistant
  • Hired by Tony Barbee in July 2023 to be one of his assistant coaches at Central Michigan
