Former DePaul head coach Joey Meyer has passed away, 74
Former DePaul player and head coach Joey Meyer passed away on Friday at the age of 74, the school announced. The son of Hall of Fame head coach Ray Meyer, Joey led the Blue Demons from 1984-97 after playing for and the coaching under his father.
Meyer led DePaul to seven NCAA Tournaments, including trips to the Sweet Sixteen in 1986 and 1987, and won the first Great Midwest regular season title after many years as a D-I Independent.
Later on Meyer served as the head coach of several different NBA G-League franchises, winning two league titles with the Asheville Altitude (now known as the Oklahoma City Blue). Outside of coaching, he also worked as a radio broadcast analyst for Northwestern basketball games in the Chicago area.
