Indiana State hires Josh Schertz from D-II Lincoln Memorial as next head coach
In a move that was reported earlier this week, Indiana State officially announced on Wednesday the hiring of Josh Schertz as the Sycamores’ next head coach. Schertz has built Lincoln Memorial (TN) into a Division II powerhouse, going to 10 D-II NCAA Tournaments in 13 years at the helm (including a 2021 run that is still active as of the announcement).
“We are pleased that Coach Josh Schertz will be leading a new era for Indiana State men’s basketball,” ISU President Dr. Deborah Curtis said in the release. “It will be exciting to welcome fans back into Hulman Center to cheer on our Sycamores under his leadership. It’s a special day for Indiana State University.”
Schertz has won over 300 games at Lincoln Memorial since taking over in 2008 and has five 30+ win seasons, all in the last seven years. The Railsplitters won their Regional Final on Tuesday to advance to the D-II Elite Eight, tipping off on March 24.
This is not the first D-I experience for Schertz, who previously spent five seasons as associate head coach at High Point and originally started out at his alma mater, Florida Atlantic.
Indiana State parted ways with former head coach Greg Lansing earlier this month after eleven seasons with just one NCAA Tournament.
