Michael Huger fired after eight seasons as Bowling Green head coach

Bowling Green announced on Sunday morning that men’s basketball coach Michael Huger has been fired after eight seasons. The Falcons were 126-125 overall under Huger, but just 24-38 in the last two seasons, finishing outside the top 8 and missing the MAC Tournament both years.

“We are extremely appreciative of Coach Michael Huger’scontributions and commitment to Men’s Basketball at Bowling Green State University over the last eight years,” AD Derek van der Merwe said in a statement. “As a former student-athlete of the program, he has brought meaningful and extensive perspective to the head coaching position and has positively impacted the lives of student-athletes. We are deeply grateful for Michael’s service to his alma mater.”

Bowling Green has one of the longest active NCAA Tournament draughts in Division I basketball, last appearing in the Big Dance in 1968. The Falcons appeared in the postseason once under Huger: the 2021 CBI.
