  • Born in Liberia, Johnson’s family had to flee in 1990 due to war; they settled in Taylorsville, Utah, a suburb of Salt Lake City
  • Played three seasons for head coach Bill Evans at Southern Utah; three-time MCC All-Academic Team honors
    • Spent his final season at D-II Bemidji State (MN), where he was the team captain
  • Started coaching at Bemidji, then spent three years as an assistant at D-II Southwest Baptist (MO)
  • Moved up to the D-I ranks in 2007, working on Bobby Braswell‘s staff at CSU Northridge for one year
  • Next was a three-year stint under Jim Boylen at Utah and two years at Drake under Mark Phelps
  • Hired by Herb Sendek at Arizona State in 2013, working with the Sun Devils for two seasons
    • ASU went to the NCAA Tournament in 2014 and the NIT the following season, Sendek’s last
  • Joined Steve Wojciechowski‘s staff as an assistant Marquette in 2015; elevated to associate head coach in 2017
    • In five seasons, Johnson was a part of two NCAA Tournaments and one NIT
  • In March 2020, Johnson was hired to be the head coach at Loyola Marymount in the WCC
    • Is 55-58 overall through four seasons, including a 19-12 record and 4th place WCC finish in 2022-23
  • Along with his wife, Brittany, has three children
