  • Hometown: Roanoke, Virginia
  • Alma Mater: Radford University (BS, 1981 & MS, 1985)
  • Graduated from William Fleming HS (VA) and then played at Ferrum College (VA) for two years
    • Transferred to Radford to finish his degree and to play under head coach Joe Davis
  • Started his coaching career at Radford in 1983, assisting Davis while earning his master’s
  • Spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Cornell under head coach Mike Dement
    • The Big Red reached the 1988 NCAA Tournament with Robinson on staff
  • Hired in 1988 to be one of Roy Williams‘ assistants at Kansas, a position he would hold for the next seven seasons
  • Became the head coach at Tulsa in 1995, leading the Golden Hurricane to a 46-18 record in two seasons
  • Left Tulsa for Florida State in 1997, coaching the Seminoles for the next five seasons
    • Reached the NCAA Tournament in his first year but saw win totals decline in the years following
    • Fired by FSU in 2002 following a fourth-straight losing season
  • Returned to Kansas that following season – in which the Jayhawks were NCAA Runner-up – and then followed Williams to UNC in 2003
    • Has been with the Tar Heels ever since, during which time they have been to 15 NCAA Tournaments, five Final Fours and won three NCAA National Championships (2005, 2009 & 2017)
    • Recruited and helped develop a number of Jayhawk and Tar Heel stars, including Paul Pierce, Raymond Felton, Brendan Wright, Ty Lawson, John Henson, Danny Green, Harrison Barnes, Kendall Marshall and others
    • Left UNC in 2021 after 18 years following Williams’ retirement
  • In August 2021, he was hired by Tommy Lloyd to be an assistant coach at Arizona
    • Part of three NCAA Tournaments in three years in Tuscon; the program moved to the Big 12 in 2024
