Todd Simon hired as new Southern Utah head coach

Southern Utah has found their new head coach in Todd Simon, who was hired after spending half of this past season as the interim head coach at UNLV. Simon was the top assistant to Dave Rice, who was fired in January following a 0-3 conference start. Simon guided the Runnin’ Rebels to 9-8 record in his short tenure, including a 1-1 record in the Mountain West Tournament.

This will be the first official collegiate head coaching position for Simon, who spent the 2006-2013 seasons with prestigious Findlay Prep in Vegas (including one season as head coach, 2012-13). His most recent tenure with UNLV was actually his second, after spending the 2004-2006 seasons as the program’s video coordinator.

Southern Utah parted ways with previous head coach Nick Robinson this month after four seasons and a cumulative 28-90 record with the Thunderbirds. Simon has a strong reputation as a recruiter, playing a major role in assembling the talented rosters at UNLV over the past several seasons.
