- Joseph Patrick Kennedy
- Born January 5, 1952
- Hometown: Keyport, New Jersey
- Alma Mater: King’s College (BA, 1975)
- Played for two years at King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, PA, then spent his last two undergrad years coaching the JV team
- Started coaching immediately after graduation, spending two years on Brian Hill’s staff at Lehigh then three more under Jim Valvano at Iona
- Took over the Iona program in 1980, winning 124 games and going to the NCAA Tournament twice in six seasons there
- Left for Florida State in 1986, where he led the Seminoles to five NCAAT appearances and a 1989 Metro title
- Took the Seminoles to the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight in back to back years, finishing second in the ACC each season (1991-93) and winning the conference coach of the year award in 1992
- Took over at DePaul in 1997, leading the Blue Demons for five seasons and reaching the NIT and NCAA Tournament once each
- Final Division I coaching stops were a two-year stint at Montana and seven years at Towson; failed to reach the postseason with either school
- Coached at Division II Pace University in New York City for two seasons
- Left Pace in 2015 with 499 career wins (487 at the Division I level)
- Along with his wife, Jeannie, has one son and two daughters; is the uncle of current NJIT head coach Brian Kennedy
