- His father, Ron Gerlufsen, was head men’s basketball coach at UMass (1983-88), D-II Shepherd and D-III SCAD
- Played for head coach Hal Nunnally at D-III Randolph-Macon (VA), serving as team captain as a junior and senior
- Started his coaching career with one-year stints at Washington College (MD) and Southwestern (KS), working under head coaches Tom Finnegan and Brad Horstman, respectively
- Was a graduate assistant and assistant coach for six total seasons at The Citadel under head coach Pat Dennis
- Arrived at Hartford in 2006, spending the next four years as an assistant under Dan Leibovitz; stayed on board under the new head coach, John Gallagher, and was later elevated to associate head coach in 2013
- Headed out West in 2015, spending four seasons at San Diego – three under Lamont Smith and one under Sam Scholl
- Joined Eran Ganot‘s staff at Hawaii as an assistant coach in 2019, working in that capacity for two seasons
- Stepped in as acting head coach for 13 games in the 2019-20 season while Ganot was on medical leave
- Became Todd Golden‘s associate head coach at San Francisco in 2021 and in March 2022, was promoted to head coach
