Shane Nichols named acting head coach at Radford

Following the DUI arrest this week of Darris Nichols, Radford has named assistant Shane Nichols acting head coach. Shane is the older brother of Darris, with both coaches joining the staff in 2021.

The statement from Radford Athletics read:

“Radford University is evaluating the situation regarding our Head Men’s Basketball Coach. Shane Nichols will serve as Acting Head Coach. This is a personnel matter and we have no further comment at this time.”

Radford is 17-12 (11-5), a vast improvement over last season, with two games remaining plus the Big South Tournament. Nichols will get his first opportunity as head coach tonight at High Point.
