Chris Beard has assembled quite a staff so far at Texas, bringing over Ulric Maligi from Texas Tech and convincing two mid-major head coaches in the state to leave their positions and become assistants again. We wrote last week about Chris Ogden leaving Texas-Arlington to return to his alma mater, but the latest addition is UTEP head coach Rodney Terry, another former Texas assistant under Rick Barnes.
Terry leaves UTEP after three seasons at the helm, during which time he was 37-48 overall. He was hired in 2018 after spending seven seasons as the head coach at Fresno State, where he took the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament in 2016 and NIT in 2017.
A native of Angelton, Texas, Terry was an assistant at Texas from 2002-11, during which time he recruited and coached future NBA players like Kevin Durant, Lamarcus Aldridge, D.J. Augustin and Tristan Thompson.
