- Alma Mater: University of California, Santa Barbara (BS, 2001)
- After graduating from UC Santa Barbara, Magpayo became a high school basketball coach in Southern California (2001-2010)
- Also served as CEO of a multi-million dollar real estate firm for seven years and founded the Asian Coaches Association
- Joined Kyle Smith‘s staff at Columbia in 2010, working with the Lions for four seasons as a DBO and assistant coach
- Spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Campbell in the Big South, working under head coach Kevin McGeehan
- Reunited with Smith in 2017, spending one season on his staff at San Francisco before headed back down to SoCal
- Was an assistant coach for two seasons at UC Riverside under David Patrick; was promoted to associate head coach in 2020
- In July 2020, Patrick announced that he was leaving for Arkansas and Magpayo was named the Highlanders’ head coach
- Given the 2021 Joe B. Hall Award, honoring the nation’s top first-year head coach
- In 2022-23, the Highlanders won 20+ games and Magpayo was named Big West COY
